A crew from RAI5 , the Italian cultural news channel, traveled to Barletta today to interview Maestro Francesco Lotoro , president of the Fondazione Istituto di Letteratura Musicale Concentrazionaria, and document his thirty-year research into the music composed in World War II concentration camps. This television project builds on the widespread recognition his extensive, multi-year research has now achieved, conducted tirelessly throughout the world over the past 35 years.

The report focuses not only on the ongoing research activities, which were presented during the conference-concert ("Music Born in Concentration Camps. The Archive Collected by Francesco Lotoro in Barletta"), promoted by the Superintendency of Archives and Bibliography of Puglia and held yesterday at the State Archives of Bari, but also on the original musical materials recovered by the Foundation in Italy and abroad and currently held in Barletta. Further in-depth coverage is dedicated to the recently inaugurated headquarters of the Bibliomediateca delle Scienze Musicali in Barletta at Via del Salvatore 48, where the library materials on concentration camp music collected by the ILMC Foundation over the last three decades are temporarily stored. It also focuses on the abandoned area of the former distillery, where the Citadel of Concentration Camp Music will be built. Its construction will involve careful restoration of the existing industrial archaeology structures.
In the January 26, 2025, episode of VISIONI, the feature dedicated to Francesco Lotoro and the activities of the ILMC Foundation will be part of a broader reflection on artistic production during the Holocaust, through a comprehensive investigation of the role of art as a form of spiritual resistance and a means of denouncing Nazi horror. The other guests on the episode will be Marcello Flores, Holocaust historian, and Marzia Luppi, a scholar of the art produced by Aldo Carpi during his imprisonment.
VISIONI is a project by Alessandra Greca, written with Laura Bolio, Silvia Benini, Elena Bonora, Chiara Biffi, Francesca Filiasi , and Mirella Serri. Directed by Anna Tinti.
