The video of Maestro Francesco Lotoro's speech at TEDx in Prague on October 18, 2025, has just been published. The topic of the speech: "The life-affirming music that survived the Holocaust."
What can music tell us about the lives that hatred and history almost erased? During the Holocaust, composers and musicians created works under unimaginable conditions while imprisoned in ghettos or concentration camps. Their music expressed hope, beauty, pain and resilience – an affirmation of life in the midst of darkness. Maestro Francesco Lotoro blends historical research with live performance, uncovering the stories hidden in these scores and revealing how music became both a tool of survival and a testament to humanity. This talk is a journey into memory, emotion, and the enduring power of art even in the darkest times. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
